The Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB) have just released the updated version of their Operational Requirements Manual, which was first published back in 1994.

The .pdf download version is available from this page:- http://scienceandresearch.homeoffice.gov.u...mp;pubID=442328

Dear all,

In my humble opinion, the most important document regarding the deployment of CCTV originally authored by Jim Aldridge at PSDB, is now being updated.

The author, Neil Cohen at HOSDB is inviting comment on this draft by the end of February. You can send any comments to Neil directly if you wish (or pass them on to someone who is making a response, I may do so)

the link is

HOSDB CCTV Operational Requirements Manual

Enjoy!

No worries Ilkie,

Great minds think alike (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I've actually merged the threads togethor so now we both know where they are (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink2.gif)

I hadn't actually realised that the document was open to comment; I was under the impression that it was a finalised publication.

Anyhow, I've only had a very quick flick through and overall it looks a very impressive piece of work.

One or two minor niggles, but nothing I'd lose sleep over; I've just got to sit down and read through it properly when I have a bit more time.

Any comments folks?

Got to read it first, Jim's original 1994 document caused a bit of a stir when first released, so it could be very interesting.

I still can't get my head around the fact that Jims original work was published almost 13 years ago, and we're still seeing many of the same operational problems repeated today.

Anyone ever managed to meet Mr. Aldridge?

Anyone ever managed to meet Mr. Aldridge?

I know him from way back, in fact we had quite a long chat at the APTS show, he also came to a couple of meetings at the South African Standards CCTV commitee.

Hi Jon / Ilkie

Thanks for the link to the new H/O's (PSDB's) Operational Requirements Manual.

I've set some time aside next week to go through it.

As an aside, I first met Jim Aldridge when I was on my Home Office Crime Prevention Officers Course up in Easingwold (Yorkshire). Jim was with PSDB at the time and had a regular two hour slot with all new crime prevention officers. I've bumped in to him many times since then and he is always an interesting speaker

(formally or informally).

Legend has it (in police circles at least) ................ that invented Rotokin !

That's what he's famous for!

The accessory that really cracked me up was the Khaki camaflauge kit that you could by to dress him up in. (the Rotokin of course)

Known Jim professionally for a number of years, and we still sell the Rotakin!

Had an interesting chat with him regarding his latest interest a few months ago regarding metadata embedded in video streams as part of the new (proposed) MPEG7 standards.

Opens up whole new areas for anyalitical video processing, some of it will be considered quite controversial

MPEG7 - Where will it all end?

I thought that was mainly for syncing lyrics to pop videos, now...
