Well I haven't actually posted much about TRUSTED lately, but that doesn't mean that what's left of my grey matter hasn't been kicking around some ideas recently.
The latest wheeze isn't really that original, but I think it will fit in well with the overall project. I'm actually planning to offer a simple service, where a submitted JPEG file can be evaluated for basic camera set up, and then a brief Image Assessment Report produced to highlight the effectiveness of the camera / record system, along with key recommendations on suitable improvements. Now I'll be the first to admit it cannot be a comprehensive review, but as a primary step towards improving existing installations, I think it could be quite useful, particularly as the JPEG's can be e-mailed from anywhere around the globe, and it shouldn't take too long to review an individual image ( 5,000 at a time may be a whole different ball game though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) ) I haven't really finalised any potential costs yet, but I'd be interested to hear any thoughts or suggestions on this. Ideal for a fixed camera.
But surely the more the camera can do (PTZ and zoom ect) ............. then I guess it becomes more difficult to properly evaluate from only one JPeg image ? |

I wondered who'd spot that first (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) As you suggested Mick, it is really intended primarily for fixed cameras, although given two or three JPEG's it is possible to suggest an optimum 'parked' position and framing for a remote control camera. At least that way if it's not looking at anything in particular, it might as well be left at a setting where it's providing some benefit in terms of displaying evidentially useful images. That would be particularly beneficial for many Town Centre cameras, which are often left with a thoroughly useless set up, when not being actively monitored (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Sounds like a good idea although I am not certain that it would be that easy to persuade 'clients' to pay for a service that demonstrates how badly they have got things wrong.
I suppose the other problem would be how to publicise this type of service, without spending a fortune on marketing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) |

I've called it "VIPER", which is another acronym, this time "Video Image Performance Evaluation Report", and initially I'll be offering VIPER 1 for fixed cameras, with three other varients currently being developed. There's a bit more information on this page, if you're interested. |

Oh well, I've really done it now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)
October the 1st was the official launch date for the new VIPER service, and much to my surprise, I've actually had seven press releases published on various news sites, and that's only after a few hours of e-mailing. I was hoping for two or three on day one, so a response like that was completely unexpected. Here's an example to be going on with - Security Oracle All I've got to do now, is get some enquiries (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

You're famous! What was it Kenneth Williams used to say in the Carry On film, "Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Very well spotted Ilkie (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) Actually you missed this one - http://www.criminaljustice-online.com/forum14/1331.html Big thanks to Raymond L. Foster, Lieutenant LAPD (Retd.), for the above two posts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) There's at least a couple of other magazine articles about VIPER due out in print next month. Just a shame that most of the interest is coming from the overseas media, and the UK Security publications are, well ... not exactly falling over themselves to report security news (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) On the plus side, the general response from law enforcement pro's has been unreservedly positive, so it looks quite promising at this stage. Keep those eyes peeled for any more mentions in the Press, Ta very much (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheers.gif) |

You forgot to mention about the write up in the A&S International security magazine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
That was quite a good one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yes.gif) So how is the viper going these days? |

Forgot to mention? ... modesty prevails (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
The VIPER is alive and well and almost kicking. I'm actually working on the next stages at the moment, but I'm encouraged to hear that my TRUSTED camera evaluation is also being used, particularly Stateside, although I don't expect to be retiring on the proceeds, anytime soon (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |
