The IIPSEC 2007 show is now only a couple of months away, and as the U.K.'s premier event for IP security, it will be showcasing the very best of what's available from the IP Video sector.

If you're company is planning to exhibit, or if you know of a company exhibiting, why not post details here and over the next month or so I'll try and put togethor a brief "showguide" on my main site.

I'll be there, all being well. I might have been roped into a speaking slot!

My word, we have a celebrity in our midst (IMG:style_emoticons/default/notworthy.gif)

How did you manage to get yourself into that situation Jeff?

If you are planning to speak, you'd better let us know what day and time, then we can all turn up to listen and learn (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yes.gif) and of course provide some moral support (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink2.gif)

Good lord, I'm not getting mobbed in Asda yet!

I think it was along the lines of.. "We've got a spare slot, can you do something?"

Tues 23rd Jan / 11:30 / IP & CCTV in the Transport Industry.

And if your not asleep by midday, my name's not... etc..

Jeff

PS They confiscate eggs and rotten tomatoes at the door. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'm thinking 'YouTube' ... be afraid, be very afraid (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Seriously though, hope it goes well for you Jeff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

Maybe we should send an intrepid reporter to cover the event; then again, it looks like I'll have to do it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Good luck for your 'big event' Jeff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

There's a coach load of forum members all planning to come and watch you ... so no pressure there then! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink2.gif)

Just got back from the show, and although the attendance seemed a bit lower than I was expecting, most of the exhibitors I spoke to seemed quite happy.

The interesting thing that seemed to come across from a number of exhibitors, was the suggestion that the IP Video sector was pretty much on a threshold, where current offerings and new products due over the next 6 - 18 months, will push the technology towards being THE preferred option, when replacing existing analogue systems.

If that is indeed a reasonable summation, then the idea of IP being the technology of the future, perhaps suggests that the future is much closer than we think.

I did also note that many 'IT' stalwarts will readily admit that whilst the netwoking side of surveillance is a walk in the park for them, actually applying the technology with any degree of insight or experience in an operational context, still leaves something of a mountain to climb.

Anyone else managed to get there, and if so, what did you think of what you saw ...?

So Mr Jeff ... what we really want to know is how did your 'speaking slot' go ...?

I thought I was going to get there in time to say hi, but as someone was already parked in my VIP space in the cowsheds (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) , unfortunately I didn't get in to the hall in time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Much as I have fond memories of the venue, it would be a heck of a lot easier for me if the show was based in London, but then that might just attract extra visitors, and cost an additional small fortune for the organisors, and we couldn't have that now, could we (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

Well the slot was fine, but the organisation pretty lacking.

From the literature, speaker pack, guidelines, it all looked very well run. So I turned up prompt, 30 mins before the start for briefing etc. Nobody there!

20 mins to go - Still no one.

2 mins to go - auditorium 1/3 full - still no one organising the event.

Zero hour - The first speaker stands up and starts his presentation. No introduction, no chairman.

Twenty minutes later he finishes, the audience buggers off.

And so it continued, bizarre to say the least. If they had a chairman the audience would have stayed. I was pretty lucky in that the place filled up to capacity during my little chat.

But why put all the effort in to present a subject when the organisers don't run the event professionally?

Delighted to hear you had a full house Jeff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yes.gif)

I must admit on the two or three ... dozen times I wandered past the presentation areas, I was struck by how few people were actually attending these side shows, and in the IP demo room, it seemed less than welcoming, and probably put off quite a few visitors from actually going in.

I have a small confession to make; somewhat late in the day I ventured into the Press Office to have a chat with someone, and would you believe it, there was nobody there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wallbash.gif)

I signed in on the tiny pad left on the desk, had a quick look around, picked up half a dozen press packs, hummed the tune from Match of the Day, twice, then got bored and decided to go home.

I suppose the moral of these stories are that for anyone organising an event, whatever and wherever it be, please remember that the people that actually make the event happen, are not necessarily just those doing the organising, but somewhat surprisingly those that take the trouble to present, and those that see fit to attend.

I've heard a few similar stories, esp on the overall organisation side.

They need to drop in a strong team leader / organiser, before the whole show falls apart.

I've just extracted the following information from the post event Press Release, which I thought some might find of interest:-

" IIPSEC 2007 grows 25% as demand for IP increases across Europe. IIPSEC again proved to be the developing platform for the rapidly increasing IP market with a busy conference, expanding education programme and exhibition. Yet again IIPSEC proved the need for a ‘focused technology’ and ‘market education event’ is strong as visitors traveled from far and wide to see the latest in IP and Network related security solutions. The event can justifiably boast that the quality of both visitors and technical expertise casts a shadow over more traditional hospitality based trade events.

Event Director and show Organiser Kevin Fagan stated that clearly the show has seen an increase in footfall but it’s also been particularly rewarding this year to see that the education programme continues to develop. He said: "It’s a clear and definite indicator that the market is really starting to take off. We believe creating a forum for learning genuinely stimulates the sector and that once the knowledge is absorbed the market will meet and likely exceed current expectations"

Conference chair person Peter Manolescue added: "The conference was light years ahead of last year’s event which in itself was a strong programme ~ the new format and the quality of the speakers shined through. Interestingly it is clear from the case studies presented that for medium and large security system users there is a transition towards integrating the system into the operational requirements of the business"

Event Facts and Figures

Event Description Having run for 5 years, IIPSEC is now a world-class brand and has established itself as the leading event for network and innovation based technology within the security and BMS markets.
